Jeff and Hunter struggle to write an original composition for a musical theatre festival and are confronted by the first blank on the submission form: [title of show]. Along with their good friends Heidi and Susan, the young writers imagine and perform a touching, funny play about the “audacity of hoping” that their work will exceed the judges’ criteria and set them on the path to success. This brash, high-energy musical reflects a new generation as it celebrates collaboration and banishes self-consciousness and the nagging voice of negativity.

Richard Feynman, the centerpiece of QED—for quantum electro-dynamics—defined the field, and his huge personality fills the stage in this tour de force featuring local actor Gary Ambler. One of the great minds of the past half century prepares for the lecture “What We Know,” rehearses for a featured scene in South Pacific, finalizes a report on the Challenger disaster, and guides an eager young student in the early stages of her inquiry into QED. Watching Feynman’s quicksilver mind at work is like sitting at the elbow of Pablo Picasso, courtside with the Harlem Globetrotters, or in the front row for a Miles Davis show.
